Meet Donna Cameron of Misfits Radio in Douglasville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Cameron.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Donna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there. Misfits Radio started from an idea. In 2015, my older brother suggested I try blogging. I thought about it for a few weeks and went back to him and asked what he thought about me trying to become a radio personality instead. He has been in the music industry for years and has always wanted me in for more than just support to him, so he was excited that I finally agreed to allow the world to see my charismatic personality. He immediately started pitching ideas and encouraging me to move forward.

I started researching different avenues and internet radio popped up on my radar. I reached out to a few people and three agreed that they would do a radio show with me if I was serious. I started visiting and reaching out to different internet radio stations and only 1 gave us a fair chance. When that station owner gave us a start date we immediately had a meeting and came up with the name of our show, which is “Westside Misfits.” That name was a perfect fit because we were all born and raised on The Westside of Atlanta and we beat the odds on a lot of situations where others weren’t so fortunate. Well, we stayed with that internet radio station for 2.5 years and due to irreconcilable differences we separated.

So for a few months, me and our DJ (who came along about a year after Westside Misfits was established) worked diligently to see how we could start a bigger platform for not only Westside Misfits but for artists, musicians, other radio show hosts, business owners, etc. From our ideas and what we wanted to see in the internet radio community, we created Misfits Radio.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you? Not at all…But anything worth having will take hard work and sacrifice. The biggest struggle so far has been learning different ways to set our internet radio station apart from all of the others as we continuously build a successful brand and gain more supporters.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Misfits Radio story. Tell us more about the business. Misfits Radio is a full functioning internet radio station that’s owned by Westside Misfits and powered by Live 365. We Play Music 24/7 and Spins Count With Us. We are where independent artists get heard. Our mission is to assist artists (of any kind) and business owners with gaining exposure and expanding their support base. We offer a variety of podcasts/radio shows with different hosts daily. We stream live from several outlets and with YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Periscope our supporters have a chance to see us as well. We do live interviews that are later uploaded to different streaming platforms (which include but not limited to iHeart Radio, Google Play, Mix Cloud, Stitcher, iTunes Podcasts, etc.) and that’s something that set us apart from other internet stations. We have a lot to offer.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business? I don’t believe in luck…I do believe what I put in the universe will be returned so I’m very mindful of how I treat others.
