Meet Lee Batups of Misfits Radio in Douglasville
Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Batups.
Lee, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. Well, I started out as a guest DJ on a radio show we have, called WestSide Misfits. And, from there a became a permanent part of the cast and crew. Once we established my permanent position with the show, I set out to learn everything I could about Internet Radio, how it works, and how do we accumulate listeners.
Once the relationship with the internet station we were on started to deteriorate, we all came together and decided we could start our own station and do it better! So, in April 2018 we launched Misfits Radio, via Misfits Media Group LLC. and it’s been full speed ahead from there! Through hard work, and a desire to treat indie artists with respect and understanding, while also giving them a platform, by which they could express themselves through their art, we find ourselves here gaining momentum and making a name for ourselves in the internet radio realm.
Has it been a smooth road? It has not been a smooth road, there have been days where I quick the business all together but always come back because I know we are doing some great things. Of course, there are always obstacles when you launch a new business, especially in such a crowed field. But, some of the struggles we deal with are funding of course. The struggle of getting artists and businesses to see the value we could add to their careers and expanding their customer base. Most artists and businesses only see FM/AM as the only viable option when it comes to radio advertisements and music promotions. Getting them to see the global reach we have, is difficult at best! Let alone, we are much more cheaper than mainstream radio.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition? Misfits Radio is a fully functioning radio station with 24/7 broadcasting of music and radio shows. We specialize in the exposure of ALL indie artists! No matter the art, no matter what level of popularity they currently have. We are best known for being able to stream video and audio simultaneously, we are the originators of the RVP genre of internet radio, we have a formula that most can’t figure out.
We are most proud of the fact that most times we are the artist’s first interview, the first radio station that has given them a chance to display themselves and their art without any judgement. I believe what sets us apart, besides the integration of the RVP aspect, is the fact that we actually appreciate the plight of the indie artist, we understand the struggles they face in getting their art out to the masses and we pride ourselves in helping them gain that exposure.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade? In the next 5 to 10 years, I see our industry being taken a little more seriously. Steaming is the wave of the present and future and all artists and businesses will eventually realize the future and see the value that we add. I also, see more integration of video, live streaming interviews and performances. We will be the dominant force in music entertainment when it comes to where global listeners get their music entertainment.
